now i tried to pair them up since she seems fat enough and the male wasnt interested, even though he mated with 2 other females at the seller's house

he seems easily distracted by everything else to even notice her

any advice?

thanx :D

What I did for pairing is take them both out and put female in front of him. By this I mean you could put male on a branch and put the female a little further up and stimulate her to move up the stick, it should get his attention. Or you can do the same method as previously stated but put female closer to him and let him slowly crawl on her back and then have her move slightly and then he realizes 'whoa there is a female right there' (and he'll do the rest, usually). Nonetheless, have her feeding whilst doing these 'manuevers' to avoid canabalism.

The best of luck,

Andrew

P.S. Any material (i.e. curtains, chair, sofa, etc)instead of a stick can be used but make sure it is vertical (or at least oriented so that they crawl up).

give him a tonic and try again! my females are all mated, and no ooths showing, Yennnn.......... how long for these girls lay?
+1 I also have wanted to know how long for the first ootheca & subsequent ones. I can't seem to find this info online I was just going to wait until I mate mine but prior knowledge is always nice :p

My girls took 6.5 and 7 weeks to lay ooths. They were very well fed throughout their adult lives, one mated once and the other twice. The ooths aren't as big as I expected, around the same size as a Rhombodera but perhaps heavier.

Bot ooviposited as soon as the humidity was increased. Female #2 showed no signs of ooth laying, but I put her in a drenched tank with the fogger on and she immediately began to show signs. These seem to be no different than any other Hierodula/Sphodromantis/Rhombodera, they're all basically the same!

i dont know when the female will be receptive but he clearly is uninterested in her i think he wants to explore but i cant let him out in my room, my free range multispina will kill him lol

i wonder where the free range multispina went off to...

Are the fish safe for large mantids to eat them....?

Here is a vid of a goldfish that I had saved for my budwing. The fish was dieing anyway. So I decided to feed it to her when she was like L-4ish.
