Hi everyone! I've been on hiatus for the past two months, because George has been thriving and I've been pretty busy with other stuff (school, mostly). Over that time, I've been giving him lots of love and honey treats, got him a new terrarium to live out his days in (complete with a fungus gnat infestation for when he's feeling peckish :S ), and even took him on a few adventures- most notably, a trip to a reptile expo.
But alas, he's been an adult for about two months now, and seems to be getting on in weeks. He's been acting oddly lately and I'm fearing he may be on his last legs. Yesterday, I gave him some honey on my finger, and he was wobbling noticeably as he walked. Not only did he chew up the honey, but also the terrarium mesh, the glass, and my finger (ouch).... Mantis Alzheimer's?? Lol.
What are the signs of old age in a mantis, and how long do male Hierodula membranacea usually live? Current symptoms:
-Wibberly wobberly jiggly wiggly walking
-Spastic chewing
-Skittish
-Adamantly hangs on the terrarium lid; not much motion and not very reactive
