I just learned something new and surprising today. I saw my small madagascar green nymph molting, not by hanging upside down, but on the ground on it's back. I tried to take photos of it on it's back, but it flipped itself before I could. I guess this also explains why small nymphs can molt successfully while in transit. I'll post the other pic later.

Any one else experience this. I know that some mantids definitely can't do this.

I have observed african mantids molting while standing upright on the ground. Not sure how one could molt while on its back since they come out of the old skin from the back.
