i was wondering if there's a way to buy mantids native to michigan anywhere? i'd be interested in some young ones or an ootheca. i'd like to raise them / mate them, and release them into my backyard. most of the mantids i see for sale are exotic. i've found a couple sites that sell them, but they're all located in the uk. anybody have any suggestions?

these are the only two species i could find so far that are native to michigan:

Mantis religiosa religiosa (Linn.) - European Mantid

Tenodera aridifolia sinensis Sauss. - Chinese Mantid

Both species you listed come up for sale here from time to time. Why not go out and see if you can find some ooths in your area? The tenodora ooths are starting to hatch in my area right now. Just keep checking the classifieds here and you will find what you are looking for.

I think the only species native to Michigan would be Stagmomantis carolina. You should be able to get the adventive Chinese oothecae from garden shops this time of year as well as online.
