Hey Matis Peeps,
I am on my first mantis, a Giant Asian. She grew very quickly and is now an adult. She has laid one unfertilized ooth already, but it is I think probably two or three weeks and her abdomen is so large that she drags it when she "walk". She live in a 14 inch plastic enclosure from the pet store, but basically just hangs upside down all day from the lid. So... when I right her up, she is mostly immobile. It is a bit concerning for me, I have started to let her crawl around more on me or hang vertically at least from my cloth covered chair in an effort to strengthen her legs. Any suggestions or anything to say about that? Normal not Normal? I have a hard time believing they are like that in the wild. They probably are much stronger from activity for one thing. It would seem I am feeding her too much, one medium cricket a day, skipping days pretty often, but she already kinda blew up just a week after laying that first ooth, so it seems somewhat inevitable. I am looking for answers from people who have had a number of adult females, preferably Giant Asians or a similar species. If you are just making an educated guess, then, please no comment. Last time I asked a question, a few molts ago, someone told me she was male! LOL Good intentions but bad advice is worse than no advice! Most are pretty good here it seems.
Matt
Thanks
The attached "Mantis Yoga" pic is her cleaning herself, just minutes ago. Didn't know they could fold that far... Normally she isn't on piles of paper or anthing that could cut her abdomen.
