I was on the Uk mantisforums and i am wondering why dont we have a section for caresheets? like i know there is idolo consolidated and stuff, but instead of adding replies, these are just for quick and easy reference to get info on the species. The ukmantis forums have it, so I figured it wouldnt be a bad idea for this for too. What do you guys think?

I think that we shoukd have a section like that too. Also one to discuss availability to know what needs to be bred and what we're running out of.

I agree Mime, a quick statement about how common the species is in culture is really helpful. Didnt think of that. Nice ;)

Care sheets = a MUST HAVE

Think of all the mantis lives that would be saved! And the owners comfort in caring for their pets!

YES, YES, YES! CARESHEETS!!!

Somebodies energetic

I agree that us not having a care sheet section already is mind boggling. I've written care sheets and posted them elsewhere already, and I would post them here as well. The problem with having a caresheet section is how heavily it would need to be moderated. In an optimal circumstance there would be no discussion, only people posting their version of a caresheet template or such. Mods would need to remove comments so as not to derail a thread and fill it with nonsense that would not help a new owner trying to find how to raise their mantis.

It could be a no-comment caresheet area. There could be an overall link for caresheets, and then a link for a species specific page. There would be one thread for caresheets, and another thread for questions.

Ideally you would want multiple care sheets for each species from each person who has raised them so you can see the differences in results compared to how they were kept, so comments would need to be enabled for each person to post their sheet.

The vast majority of mantids can be kept under very general conditions so you wouldn't need a caresheet for every species. Some of the mantids that do require specific care could have a caresheet made. The care is constantly evolving for certain species so the sheet would need to be updated as we learn more. That is the idea behind people making the consolidated threads. This idea has been discussed by the staff here in the past.

Exactly Rick! Most mantids are kept in the same conditions. With a little bit of research (Which has really been lacking here recently) you can find out what you need to know.

The consolidated page is already an unreadable amount of pages long. But anyway, if we don't have a section then can we at least have all species specific care sheets pinned?

A great place to find sections for general info, keeping, breeding, and photos of various instars, It's a "one-stop-shop" for many species. I believe if someone put something like this together, they must know their :poop: .

Also...if the information is available elsewhere, why not access it from the source? Why must we copy something already being done?

Please share links to your best "other" informational resources you may have. I have always said, you don't have to know everything, you just need to know where to find the info.

I can dig the idea of a caresheet section but like others said it is alot of work and there are plenty of other sources for caresheets on the interwebs.

Random thought, but I think if there even was to be a new section like this, I would maybe suggest doing a section that is filled with threads like Idolomantis consolidated pages. Threads where people can share their experiences with said species, and just limit each thread to a year or something and lock it after that. If that species is still popular, then a new thread can be started. It would prolly take alot of work to keep the subjects on topic. But I think it could be fun.

I agree with mime, i also mostly look at the diapause, hatch rate, and mating tips and things like that. The main husbandry (the heat and humidity) i rarely refer to, because those are much easier to remember.
