Hello, I mated a pair of Chinese mantises today and the male keeps disconnecting and reconnecting. It has been 6 hours since he first mounted, but he has disconnected at least 3 or 4 times. I am wondering why he is doing this? I haven't had males do this normally? or maybe I haven't noticed? Not sure...

But I am wondering if I don't see the whitish clear stuff (the spermetheca) deposited in the females abdomen does that mean they did not successfully mate?

Because I mated him a few days ago with a different female and he mated for about 4 hours and got off and there was the white stuff in the female's abdomen.

After finally staying connected for a while he has finally successfully mated and demounted. Maybe he was just unsettled and couldn't get the right position. But the white stuff was in the female. Does that mean for sure it was a successful mating?
