I was thinking, why don't we have Grammys for mantis species??? I'll name a bunch of categories, suggest a few species, then have other peeps suggest more species for the categories and even more categories

then in about 2 weeks I will pick 5 from each category for nomination and start a voting thread :)

You missed in the Most Prolific Mantis Pseudohatpax virescens and Odontomantis planiceps. I think those two mantids are the fastest breeding mantis that were in America! What is Photogenic?

In Most Flightful Mantis: you missed male Pseudoharpax virescens. They fly more than the male Chinese Mantids I have found around the area I live.

Also, popas are communable, every sphodromantis is jumpy, Deroplatys trigonodera and idolos are really photogenic, and for smallest, maybe some tarachodes or amorphoscelis, and of course, the miniature acontista multicolor!! A multicolor is so small that adults are the size of your fingernail!

I think that should be most communual instead of Communicable.

Gee, for the jumpiest mantis category, I would include every L1 nymph I've ever photographed. Most of them never sit still. But seriously, the Sinomantis denticulata can be quite jumpy.

I'm not sure I would have nominated b. Mendicas under Lowest mortality. I lose about 20% until L3, and then the survival rate greatly improves. But I raise mine in net enclosures, and the L1s and L2s that mismolt are usually hanging on the sides of the enclosure. Still working on that issue.

I'm glad you add Oxyopsis gracilis to most prolific. Personally I would add them to lowest mortality but perhaps they are suited to the conditions at my house.

As for the most difficult category, do you mean to raise or to breed???

I would add Hymenopus coronatus to most photogenic. They are beautiful and pose nicely...

Sinomantis denticulata should be considered in the smallest mantis category.

If you add a category for longest time to molt to an adult, you should include Sinomantis denticulata.

If you add a category for most animated or best personality, you should consider p. wahlbergii.

The voting is already in at my house.
