Finally had my first mantis mating experience My two religiosa are having mantis sex right now! Woot for baby mantises in the spring! It's pretty awesome to succeed at mating them. I was so so nervous to put them together, but with a little shove in the right direction the male hopped right on. Thanks so much Rick for your awesome mantis breeding sticky!! I followed it pretty much to the T and it certainly paid off!

Thanks guys! Well they stayed connected for about four or five hours, and the male managed to live to see another day Now I'll be trying to breed my two pairs of Chinese tonight

Congrats! It's pretty easy considering both the participants have a good attitude. Ditto on 4-5 hours. My ladies have become so swollen over the last week after mating they look like bowling pins! Every day I keep hoping to see an ooth but it hasn't come yet. In the meantime I keep going back and forth as to keeping my males or releasing them. I keep asking myself, "Do I really want 10-14 fertile ooths?

I figure the more fertile ooths the better. You can keep some, sell some, and release some so you have tons of mantids next year. I always feel bad for taking tons of mantids out of my area so I'll be happy to let some of my ooths go so I have something to chase all summer next year
