Order some milipedes from Swift... here are some of the pics. Anyone know the scientific name for the milipede on the last pic? Kelly has no idea/forgotten the species name. It is about 3 inches long and half an inch wide from Mississippi. Thanks.

I think that it may be a member of the Xystodesmidae, probably Sigmoria sp. (based on number of segments, area, dorso-ventral flattening, wild guess).

But these are hard to identify, even if you can see their little gonopores and gonopods, and they appear to have more intergrades than reptiles. If anyone here knows, it will probably be Orin.

And yes, Alex, some do look a bit like "pill bugs" but are not closely related. Your learning task for today is to look up the class Diplopoda and the order Isopoda.

I never saw this old post, that last one is a Pachydesmus sp.
