Hey guys!! Does anyone know how a mantis loses his little "sticky foot"? You know, that little sticky foot just at the bottom of the raptoral arm but just above the little hook, for lack of a better way to describe it. I noticed when I got home from the hospital today that my female H.Grandis has somehow lost the little grippy foot on her left raptoral arm. Looks like it just fell off or something. I was wondering if it will grow back with the next molt. For now she can not really hold on to smooth surfaces as well as before and the little sharp at the end gets caught in the little grooves of her tank lid. Any body experience the same thing?

Yea, it should grow back on her next molt, sometimes their feet get stuck on things and I don't know whether they pull them off accidently or if it gets cut off. ;)

I've had it happen with old mantises. When they get old, things just start falling off. Aren't you glad humans aren't like that?

I have had this a lot on adult mantids, as said above. Have never noticed it nymphs though.

I don't think it's to much to worry about, never seems to cause any problems from what I have seen.

there isnt anything sticky inside the tank/cage is there that might cause this?

i came home once to find the hygrometer had fallen off and several young nymphs were stuck to the glue it left behind. then they kicked the bucket (died)
