They do look interesting Thank you! That is a very interesting looking mantis! That prothorax is so long! Awesome pictures too!
@BigAL are these difficult to take care of? They look very delicate.
See the Wandering violin mantis (Gongylus gongylodes) care sheet, and another one too. They are a intermediate/advanced species where even some keepers who have kept mantids for years can fail with them, search around the forum and your see such posts and your notice how uncommon the species is (and that is for a reason). They're relatively easy to be honest only thing special is they require a little bit of heat, but they can survive without, just makes them molt quicker
story of my life...that final molt always got me.See the Wandering violin mantis (Gongylus gongylodes) care sheet, and another one too. Some keepers tend to have a "mantid thumb" as it were, likely due to husbandry care gained from other exotic pets, or their personal house can be better suited due to humidity and/or temperatures from the ambient room too.
It is strange but some keepers can keep some of the advanced species with little effort, others can try everything and fail, or more commonly things go great for awhile (then if they do not have the experience/knowledge) a problem occurs (the final molt and breeding are by far the biggest problems with any species).
I thought I'd better pass that information along so no one is thinking that the species is easy to keep as it simply isn't. I'm glad to see though BigAL your having great luck with them.
