I ordered my first ootheca (chinese). Well 3 of them. (Im putting 2 outside) $10.00 shipped! Anyway, Im debating housing for nymphs. I have a 10 gallon with a tight fitting glass top and was thinking I could let them hatch in there and add a lot of fruit flies, and then when they hit the 3rd instar, I can keep a few and let the rest go. I also have 6 deli cups I could toss a few in each and try that. With an entire ootheca, I can probably do both and see what works best.

You have a good plan. The tank with the glass lid will not have any airflow but you do need some type of lid that will keep fruit flies in. They are best all left together in a larger enclosure until you get a good number you can seperate and care for.

I ended up canceling the order since my previous ooth hatched out of nowhere. I have 10 I am caring for. 4 in a screen top and 6 in individual cups with little airflow but better access to fruit flys or so I thought. The 4 in the big container seem to have better luck as the fruit flies cluster near light which is usually one corner or the other. I would put the other 6 back but I like keeping roughly half/half in different places in case something bad happens so I dont loose them all.
