Well, not MY first time, but it will be for my O. Distinctus - my males moulted into adulthood almost one month ago, and my female did the same one week ago - my friend said, that they can mate after 5-6 days, and so I gave it a try... as soon as the female noticed the male, she approached him in an agressive manner - he ran away... I've tried to mate her with both males a couple of times, but to no avail... the males just run away after they see her moving her arms...

I don't know what to do - it scares me to leave them alone, because I fear for my little buddies, I do not want them devoured!

You should have posted this in the Breeding and Nymph Help section.

Anyway, 5-6 days after the last molt is not enough time for most mantids to mate. You usually have to wait at LEAST 2.5 weeks after the final molt, and even then some might not be ready. For now, keep feeding them and wait until later.

Good luck! :)

Thanks - the girl that mislead me to believe in rediness for mating after only a couple of days will get scolded - to think that aftet two years of experience in keeping mantids she gave me such a phony advice...

Maybe someone could move this thread where it should be?

I did, I did it!

And now I have a cute little ooth laid on the ceiling of my container - cool! B)

They laying of the ooth means nothing. They lay them whether mated or not. Did you witness a good mating?
