Here is my new favorite music piece - it is played on viola da gamba - a type of lute played like a cello. The instrument has frets and 7 strings and is from the baroque period of France. It was originally from Spain and was played also in England. I am saving my money so I can get one of these instruments.

If you like this, I recommend you get the cd called "Les Voix Humaines" by Jordi Savall as it has some breathtaking viola da gamba music on it.

Thank you very much, Martin. I shall buy myself the disk for Xmas. It really is "la voix humaine." I tried it out from several listening positions in relation to my computer, and found it most "humaine" when I was eating eggs and beans by my sunny patio.

I have a number of friends/relatives in their late teens/early twenties who link me to a variety of music that I frequently enjoy, but when I send them something like this, their eyes begin to glaze. One of the areas in which my generation seriously failed.

May I suggest something that is almost equal in the impressiveness, but it is vocal?

One of my friends turned me on to this russian singer, Vitas I think?

But the pitches this man can hit...

I'm a girl, and when I was in high school I was in choir.

I was a female tenor, and there's no way in heaven or heck I could do the things he can do.

I love the viola song, by the way.

I felt rather classy listening to it!

Speaking of all this 'classy' stuff - are there any fans of Trans Siberian Orchestra? They're coming to my town soon... If only I had some cash =(
