Last night my friends came over for my the breeding of my second pair of Giant Asian Praying Mantises, which consisted of trying to get Novamaru to the bottom of the cage so putting Sonamy in there would be easier. In the time that took they both had to go home, so after seeing them off and returning....Novamaru was already eating him, but mating still happened, she just relentless ate him the entire way through, after leaving two crickets half eaten no less, I thought she was full!! If Novamaru wasn't a cannibal before she is now....
With that, the era of my first generation with this Species is coming down to the wire. How long will it be until Novamaru begins laying eggs? Also, I've been seriously thinking about feeding them something besides crickets (Which I'll need to do for Nymphs right out of the Ootheca anyway). And another thing, for this Species one site said 4 to 6 Ootheca, and another said 5 to 8, so how many from my Hierodula Membranacea female should I be prepared for??
