Both female and Stagmomantid Limbata.

I'll show Sir's pictures first. She died at 4 months old, stage L4. I got her at stage L2. She was named Sir because I thought she was male but she turned out to be female so her name then stood for 'Silvia Irwin Reynolds'. Lol.

Sir when I first got her (May):

Sir in June:

Sir in July:

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178968?offset=0#/d5am0uk (My last photo session with her. I deliberately avoided taking pictures of her when she was sick and dying because that's not really what I want to remember about her.)

Next is Majesty. Majesty is 7 months old and stage L6 of 6, meaning she's an adult.

Majesty when I first got her (May):

Majesty in July:

Majesty in August:

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=48#/d59boz3 (Her claws squeak against the container when she tries getting out. She looks like a dog digging but she's really just trying to climb to the top.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=48#/d5ai3gl (Eating a fly.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=48#/d5akn7i (One of my favorite photos of her.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=24#/d5cd4ew (Staring at me. I find it funny how mantids stare at you, like they're wondering what the heck you are.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=24#/d5ciuqq (Eating a grass hopper. One of my first digitally enhanced photos.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=24#/d5cqxxe (Majesty in her new container when I first got it. It's huge, lol.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=24#/d5cvyhh (Wondering what a camera is.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=24#/d5cvyz4 (Can see her colors really well, here.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=0#/d5d00my (Majesty's fangs revealed as she eats.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=0#/d5dom9i (Eyes dilated, red.)

http://alexanderoony.deviantart.com/gallery/38178973?offset=0#/d5dpk04 (Petting her. She doesn't mind to be pet. I'm very gentle.)

That's it for now! Enjoy!

nice pics...i love the one where she is looking at majesty...i think it is soo cool that a mantis sees another mantis and is like "hey, you're a mantis too!?"

Thanks! I like that one, too. Haha I know, its like, how the heck do they know that another mantid is indeed what they are? Do they learn that they look alike by seeing their reflection through their containers?

Thanks! And I thought they realized it's mantid instead of mantis? Does that only work for the species as a whole?
it only works when generally talking about mantids or mantises, however you call it. It doesn't work for species names. Such as idolomantis. It cannot be changed to idolomantid.

Ooh okay, I was wondering about that, thanks for the info.

She lets you pet her back? Mine have always run away when i do that, or in the case of my most recent adult female limbata, claw me and not let go.

Really? Did you buy yours or find it? If it was found in the wild that could be why they don't like it.

Majesty is very tame though, even compared to my other mantid that I had who was of the same genus. Maybe its a personality thing.
