As some of you know, I've been more and more interested in spiders as of late. This is one of the few new species that I've originally acquired. These things are native to the U.S.A. and cheap as dirt!!! (When compared to some tarantula and mantis species) One of the largest species of spiders, these guys get preeeetty BIG!

Their silk has been used in the medical field for neuronal regeneration. It's also got a tensile strength that's stronger than STEEL! The more I learn, the more I am amazed!

These guys are just beautiful and I thought I'd share. I know some folks could care less about spiders, but as some of you folks know.. I'm arachnophobic as heck yet still decided to get a pair of these.

Notice how SMALL the male is compared to the female.

There's two clips here. It's really kind of a funny story because I didn't intend on making 2 clips, however, when they started walking closer to my hand my arachnophobia kicked it BIG TIME! I was about to just throw that lid away, so I really just had to stop the video and continue recording after I felt "safe".

Way to conquer your fear!!! I'm not afraid of normal size spiders but when they get 2/3 the size of a deli lid I think there's a fear factor that creeps in most people.

If you threw that lid, I wouldn't even say a word, except maybe "don't throw that thng my way" Hahaha :D

Haha speaking of overcoming arachnophobia... if i were a counselor i think a decent-sized Huntsman would be one of my graduating tests..

This isn't my photo but I've had something like this in my kitchen before. I swear it pwned the deli lid in leg-span.. the real problem though was that it was fast, fast, FAST!! Cockroach fast.

I'm not ashamed to say that it freaked me out more than any arthropod has ever done.. though i guess that's partly because I was the one who had to nab it

I had removed Nephila from my wishlist. But since I have seen your video I really want to get one!!Thank you very much for showing,it is really beautiful(and cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Hahaha! I haven't started playing with HER yet though. I think I may just treat her the same way we'd treat a goldfish.. watch but don't touch. =P

I actually do plan on getting a lot of huntsman later when they are available. The person I plan on getting them from calls them Rain Spiders. ;)

Oh man, so freakin awesome! Planning on breeding them?
I don't know the first thing about breeding spiders... But it seems that something may have happened in the night. The male and female went belly to belly so I guess I'll have to wait and see if they make an egg sac later.

Yeah I think spiders are not as popular as tarantulas over here so they don't have as much of a market so their prices are SUPER LOW! Even at full retail pricing they are still VERY cheap!

Here is another Orb Weaver that I acquired. These guys are smaller, but are also VERY colorful! This one did not move at all during the day, but at night time she was like BATMAN! Running all over the place!

These guys are actually supposed to be very abundant in my area as well, but I had to buy this one since I don't remember seeing one anywhere.

If you guys REALLY want to get "old school", Charlotte from Charlotte's Web was an Orb Weaver. ;)

Who remembers Charlotte??? :)

Oh man I am jealous now :p .Do you have this one from Florida? It is the one I want(among many others!).

Yes I do! And the one in that photo is incredible! I never knew that they had that coloring on them! :)

They are very nice(opiliones) also you can feed them with your dead mantis!

When I go down to my dock i see at least 4 to 6 of these in the mangroves above me.

One day I feed one to my mantis. He loved it :) .
