Hi all, I am a newb.

I am interested in keeping mantid's, but trying to educate myself a bit first.

Any recommmendations?

Thanks

I was thinking I'd buy the that alien book to start.

One website says Ghosts are ok for beginners one said no.

Opinions?

Do you think they would be easier then the orchid mantis?

In my opinion the Ghost mantis is the species to go with first, and then after some practice, you might try Orchids.

Good luck and be smart. You can get a lot of help right here on the Mantid Forum. Try to learn from others' mistakes.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Ghosts are a good beginner species. You could always try any of the Hierodula sp. They are very easy as well! :)

Welcome to the community. "Keeping Aliens" is a great book. Ghosts are a good starter species if you dont mind smaller mantids. Personaly I think the common Chines is a great mantis to start with. They are a fun and easy mantis to raise and can take down large prey. Orchids are considered a tougher species to keep and reqire experience.

Welcome. The book is a good start for a beginner but keep in mind that the techniques are not the only way to do things.
