It is made out of brass and as far as how I do it, just one of the great mysteries in our universe.

I have a theory as to how he does it:

1 he takes a dead mantis and scans it in a 3D scanner

2 he makes a mold out of it with a 3D printer

3 he pours molten brass into the mold and lets it harden

4 he cuts it apart, takes pics of the parts and welds them back together to make it seem like everything was made individually

Nice theory but no prize, every piece is cut out by hand from solid brass bar stock and also shaped by hand with various files.
