Hello from the Chicago area! I just discovered this forum but have been a hardcore mantis fanatic since the 1st grade (a long, LONG time ago). I've collected, bred, and raised only "local" species for over 35 years (Chinese, Carolina, and European), but I only recently realized that there were a lot of other folks out there who appreciate mantises as much (if not more) than I do. So I decided to expand my horizons and purchased a giant African mantis from a breeder about 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately, I didn't do enough research on the supplier/breeder...and three weeks later I'm guessing I might be writing it off as a bad deal. You live and you learn! (maybe I'll add my two cents in the appropriate forum later on)
Anyhow, my day late/dollar short research led me to this place. For the last two days I've been spending WAY too much time combing through all the posts and topics! I can't say how impressed I am with the unbelievable photos, feedback, instructions, expertise, and obvious enthusiasm. So that's my silver lining for my ill-advised mantis purchase. (S. lineola btw) I'm looking forward to picking myself back up and getting into other species via inspiration from this website as well as sharing what I've learned from thousands of hours of watching these great bugs for most of my life.
I'll head over to the photo discussion thread and post a few pictures to just to get the ball rolling.
