I've always liked keeping insects and arachnids, but keeping mantises didn't start for me back in May. My milkweed plants, home to many of my monarch caterpillars, were being attacked by aphids and other pests. I bought my first ooth off of ebay and the mantis nymphs literally ate everything (except the caterpillars) and saved my whole setup.

Now I just like to keep them because they're are among the most attractive insects I've kept. A lot of people on the tarantula forum find them boring, I love them and their strange habits. I've been trying to find more of Deroplatys Lobata and other attractive species, but no such luck yet haha

Welcome. I'm new to mantids too. I used to keep T's years ago but I find the mantids far more animated. No disrespect but compared to mantids T's are like pet rocks.

Welcome to the forum! Mantids are definitely very interesting pets. I imagine that T's are fun (I've never personally had one), but mantids are my favorites! :)
