Hi... we have some 3 week old Chinese Mantids. I bought the ootheca for my 11 year old daughter at a homeschool convention. We had about 150 hatch (in my best estimation) and we are now down to 7 live mantids. We feed them wingless fruit flies (the smallest type) I think that they may be in the second moult. Is that possible? It seems soon. Perhaps it is the first. We didn't notice the first moult. Although reading again now, I think that may be the case. (They lost energy and stood around a lot.)

Anyway... I am totally fascinated by these little critters! I spend a lot of time staring through the magnifier lid. I have just been reading up (again) and found this forum. Looking forward to chatting with you!

Welcome. The molting sounds about normal.

Wecome, And seperate them or you'll only have one soon, Chinese love Chinese food...
Thank you all for the welcomes!

And Angelofdeath... I do have them separated. We are down to 3 healthy and one injured in the molt. (Didn't fully shed and dried in a C position to the side) It is a feisty one! We will have to see how it does.
