hi everyone,

my name is Harry and while I'm new to mantids, I'm not so new to insects.

being a chameleon keeper for a while I've had to raise or breed many insects as feeders for my tree loving friends.

to be honest, I'm not a big bug fan. I'm more of an nature lover who likes all living things, mantids included.

as a result I have had many pets in my life and have even breed many of them.

mantids have always peaked my intrest so I have 3 ghosts being shiped overnight from Rebecca and I should have them tomorrow.

ghosts might be just for the newbie, but they are clearly my favorite. they just look so cool.

I'm sure that in time I'll have a few different ones as pets in time, but I do hope to buy enough ghosts in order to breed them.

I've been doing alot of reading on mantids with the help of this forum and learned a lot. I just hope I don't get hoplessly addicted. :p

Welcome! I love the ghosts! They're just so crazy looking and just get more and more awesome with every molt! :D

Ghosts were my first "exotic" mantis, and I still love them. Not many mantises can match their awesome looks, plus they're so easy to take care of. You really get the best of both worlds.

thanks Laura, I too find them sooo cool looking with each molt.

while I did show some of my friends some of the "regal" looking photos of them, they were not impressed. they kept saying that they just look like a dead leaf and why would I want to get something that ugly.

yet to me, that is what I like about them. to me an abush preditor that looks like a dead leaf sounds so cool.

I also just realised that I didn't say to much about myself, so here is a bit more about me...

I live in New York City...Brooklyn, to be honest. I'm 43 and only work part time, so I keep myself busy with my 6 chameleons.

I love fishing, taking photos, and long walks on the beach...is this a dating service? :p

I also have a strange sence of humor, so be kind to this fool.

I also would prefer if the regular members would just call me Harry...the user name warpdrive is just so anyone here would know that I am the same person on the chameleon forums.

Welcome to the forum. With that nice long descriptive description of yourself, you'll have ladies jumping all over you any minute now. What type of chameleons are you keeping?

I think the whole dead leaf thing is one of their best attributes! You want proof of evolution? Look at those little buggers! They blend in with dead foliage like a champ! (not trying to start a theological debate) Of coarse, having chameleons, you're familiar with the awesomeness of camouflage already! :D

haha, I have 2 panthers and 4 quads.

they are so great to have, but I sometimes feel like I spend more time taking care of all the feeders I have. lol

welcome, Harry! I'm a newbie as well, and I can't believe how much I've learned already from this forum. I think you'll be impressed!

Welcome! fancy seeing you here! I sent them babies today, hope u have fun with them, people who say that to you "why would you want something like that" are just jealous! I love it when they act that way! Tell them it's ok if they buy some too, then u guys can play together :tt2: Also they are great as the Great Creator made them to have a body to protect itself in the wild, He is also Awesome!!!

hi Rebecca,

in your last email sent just prior to this reply it states that you will first ship on tuesday for wedsday delivery...unless you ment I will get them tomorrow, and not first ship tomorrow like stated.

no biggie in any way, I'll be able to be home for delivery on wedsday if needed. my work buddys know I get strange LIVE packages and have to sign for them.

so I'll be home both tuesday and wedsday for sure...I do hope I get them tomorrow, who can sleep?

as for what my friends think, you are clearly right. they are jealous. they wish they can have many of my pets. well maybe not the bugs that they eat, but my friend Bonny just loved the live painted lady butterfly I gave her as a gift.

my nephiew hates bugs and looked at me funny when I told him what I'm getting. yet he has beardies and cresties because I have chameleons (so he puts up with them bugs)...I'm sure that once I have some ghosts in the house, then he will want some too. ;)

then again, my friends thought I was nuts for getting into Chameleons and now hold them and feed them. hehe
