I am not sure what I would like to do with my Lobata pair. I tried breeding them 5-6 times with me being there.
I've held them out on my arms letting the male get behind her a dozen or so times... No interest, he just walks all over here and past her, no interest.
I let them be in the screen cage together, with the door open, I watched but always had to interrupt the male and female's privacy because the female always turn her head and look at male like he is enemy or food.
I put my male downstairs to get away from her pheromones for 6 straight days.
It has been 4 days now that he has been in the same room with her.
I taped her hands (not complete arms) together, hopefully so there is less stress, not sure though?
She bit the tape open and got her claws out of it within 4 hours.
I decided to keep them separate for 2 days.
I decided to try restricting her claws again, so I tripple taped her hands. She has been taped for the past 2 days, no solid tears yet, just a few tiny pieces ripped up a little bit. I do notice her biting little nibbles out of the tape once in a while. I have a feeling she is getting used to not having control? Or maybe she is living as a disabled now? Not sure what goes through their instinct/hunches when something like this happens. It's not like she lost feeling? She still has hair arms... Just basically in a cast...
I put a black garbage bag around the front and side, so the only thing they can actually see outside of their screen cage is the aqua colored wall. This also helps keep the humidity up.
They have a heat lamp, only 60 watt. 85ish degrees and 80% humidity.
I hand fed her a cut open dubia roach that was coated with bee pollen powder, she loved it.
I am going to re-lease her arms and see if she is capable of catching a roach, just to know for sure that I am not harming her to the max.
I am more than willing to hand feed her. I really want her to pass on more of her blood before she passes on herself.
Oh I also have an adult Dessicata that was connected twice! She should be laying soon right? She was mated 1.5-2 weeks ago at most. I received her from over seas, my friend is extremely reliable and I trust his words and pictures, so please don't question whether or not she was bred. I also got the male that she mated with, maybe I could bred her again? Although I don't see the point? Is there any easy way to figure if the male was infertile and cannot get her fertile? I hope she lays soon!!! If the male and female are healthy and are a good sexed pair, any day now, right?
She has eaten a couple large dubia that had their guts loaded with bee pollen........ lol my mantids and thier taste for their bee pollen!!!! lol
