First of all, when I went to mist, feed, and etc. everybody yesterday, the 1st Instar that had been attacked had died. :( Sadly, he had been mortally wounded after all. Then, when I went to remove the last 2nd Instar, another one had showed up. I thought, Ah ha! You must've been hiding on me! I immediately put it into the cup I had just emptied and cleaned out from the deceased 1st Instar. The other (and last) 2nd Instar I was hesitant to move as it seemed to be in position for preparation to molt. He didn't feed either. So, I was okay with that. I made up some more cups so that I would have some on hand. Well, when I went to check on my guy a little later to see if it was indeed molting, there was ANOTHER 2nd Instar. I literally said, "you little twit!" I think they were hiding out to preserve themselves from the cannibalism that had begun. Even more interesting though, was that when I retrieved a cup for it and went to introduce it to it's new home, what do I find? Another 1st Instar!! I'm like what the heck? Upon further investigation, :detective: I found 2 more 1st Instars! So, I got the one that was trying to act 'as if' he was molting out of there because I noticed he was very avidly watching those little 1st Instars and they were about to become dinner. I got very curious at this point about the ooth. I'm really not sure if these are more late bloomers or if as I mentioned yesterday, the possibility of the second ooth hatching. I finally took a look at the ooth and it doesn't appear to me to be able to hatch anything more. I cannot for the life of me remember where the second ooth is and I couldn't find it either! I figure when I go to mist and feed those three 1st Instars this morning, if I see more, then I'll pretty much know for sure that it's the other ooth. I will get a pic posted today of the first ooth so that everybody can see what I've got. I guess it will help with the ID of these guys too. So, as of right now, before this mornings count, I have ten 2nd Instars, four 1st Instars, and then Skittles, the Unknown. LOL  I think Skittles is about a 4th Instar as he is over an inch long. So, despite losing some to cannibalism, I am only one short of how many I had before it began! :)

Those mantids are tricky little ones!! I'm glad you didn't lose as many as you thought. I'm still perplexed as to how you found a mantis that is L4 this early in the year!

Oh boy... Following your mantis saga, I have the niggling feeling that you'll be finding some more here soon. ;)

Yep, I already have. ;) Another 1st Instar. That makes 4. So, I'm now back to my original high of 15 nymphs. Let's see now if it goes even higher. . . :whistling:
