Hello everyone!
My bug son, Mr. Bug Man (Chinese mantis) has been an adult for about a month now. He is quite uncoordinated but is able to catch his food if I make it easy for him to catch. Lately he’s been refusing to even attempt catching his food, so I get the joy of cutting up blue bottle flies and hand feeding them to him. He will sometimes hold it in his Raptorial arms. The majority of the time I have to hold it up to his mouth, wait until he has a good enough bite, and then repeat that over 10 times after he drops it.
I’m wondering if I’m contributing to this by hand feeding him? He had a bad final molt and all of his legs are different lengths and he isn’t the fastest climber/walker. He’s still able to eat, but does get annoyed and fed up by about the 3rd fly which isn’t enough food for him. I’ve attached a video below of me feeding him.
Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
