Ha ha! Some of you may have seen me bragging about my new ooth setup. A lidless plastic box large enough to rake 12 upright delicups, a foam base for passive humidification, a small humidifier and the ooth(s) stuck to the underside of a tongue blade which is neatly labelled on top. I have hatched a cuppla ooths in this way in the past and found that if a nymph or two got out of the open pot it was still easy to catch.

Then I tried a method that I have thought about before and was remined of when Sporeworld said that he had saturated a few ooths (you have to be careful in regulating the humidity) and that they didn't hatch until they dried out -- I have seen the same thing with Chinese ooths after a good soaking and dry out.

Well, it works! I turned the humidifier off on Wednesday evening at Taps (we say Last Post in England) and the ooths started hatching the next morning and seven, six of Frey's and one of Yen's hatched in the next 24 hours. Nymphs everywhere! The climbed down into the foam and laughed shrilly when I tried to catch them. I keep a pastry brush handy for sweeping nymphs and FFs in the right direction and ended up evacuating 27. The box is empty, but I'm sure that I'll find a few more strays over the next few days. When I shop at Mantis Place at the beginning of next month, I shall be sure to get a few dozen of those metal mesh lids!

Sounds like an awesome setup. :)

And good info about soaking and then drying out the ooths. *jots it down* And a pastry brush sounds even more useful. You're just a wealth of information today, Phil. ;)
