I'm still enjoying the katydids. They make decent pets, though they are sometimes jumpy when you take them out of the terrarium.

Here's a photo of one of the males.

That is a stunning color,I've seen some with minor pink spots but never the whole body, really awesome to capture :)
I got them from Yen. I think they're pretty cool and are easier to care for than mantises.
How do you raise plant eaters? Do you grow live plants, or bring in cuttings from outside?
There are wild raspberries growing all over outside. That is what I primarily feed them. I put cuttings in a water bottle and replace them every few days. I also have rabbits and sometimes give them lettuce since I have it here. Every now and then I give them a few cheerios (per Yen). I dug up a small raspberry plant and potted it. I'm going out of town and am hoping that will keep them fed so that my neighbor only has to spray them.

Never thought about keeping something like a katydid. Pretty neat. Funny you mention raspberry leaves since I pulled a large leaf katydid off my raspberry plant the other day.

i caught a pair of the green morph of those guys on labor day but the female died 2 days later (made a good enricher for my isopods after she died) so i fed the male to a mantis

I thought for a second that I was still in the moss mantis thread. I was going to hit you. :D

Might have to look into getting some of these sometime, usually all I get are the bush katydid nymphs in my yard, these are much more interesting photographically lol

beauty! Will you breed them?
My primary reason for getting them was to photograph them. However, I am incubating a small number of eggs to see if they hatch. The female has mated at least four times. I found a few random eggs here and there on top of the substrate, but after the last mating, I discovered that she was depositing eggs into the foam backing that came with the Exo-terra terrarium. The foam closed back up where she had laid these eggs, but I remembered the spot and had to pick pieces of the foam to find the eggs. I found six eggs in the foam. I never would have known if I hadn't seen her doing this. There were a couple of holes in the foam but I didn't find any other eggs. If there are other eggs and they hatch, I'm not sure if the nymphs will be able to get out. Since then, I moved them into an even larger terrariums I used to use for Idolos. I had tossed the foam backing in this terrarium when I set it up. They love their new home and seem to be eating more. There may be some forum members who purchased nymphs from Yen. Hopefully they aren't using foam in the terrarium or if they are, they read this post.

Tammy: I did not realize that there is such a vibrant color present with these Oblong winged pink morph kds. Nice work as always!
