Very cool looking!

I think it is a conehead katydid. Will you find him a girl and see what the young look like?

Most likely the young would just carry the trait would take crossing them to get a generation looking this way. I have little knowledge on the species so I was actually going to feed her to Andrews female lobata.

Katydid?

EDIT: Oh, lol, didn't read the other posts. :)

I demand his release! :D

My girl wouldn't mind the snack :p ...I usually come accross tons of katydids whilst cutting the lawn...usually they're green (both male and female) ...but occasionally a brown male or female will pop up ....

It still looks as if it will molt one more time. I wonder if the color will stay the same. It might eat romaine lettuce.

I have raised other tettigoniidae similar to a mantis only fed them lettuce and various flowers and leaves. Never even tried breeding. I just like to take in young ones and let them go when they are adults.

Leucism /ˈljsɪzəm/[1] is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals caused by a recessive allele. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin.

This is not albino, it has black eyes. They complete lack of all pigment suggests it is leucistic. But their are dozens of traits or morphs out there this is just my best guess.

Yes, I read up on it too. In leucism the eyes still have color whereas when albino, the eyes lack color also and are red due to the showing through of the blood vessels.
