Does anyone have a picture of a dead mantis? I used to have one, but I deleted it because it was bumming me out. If not, does anyone have any ideas for imagery for short lifespan of a mantis? I'm consumed with this speech I'm writing!
Sometimes they die frozen in place, so take a pic of a live one that won't bum you out, and tell folks, "I thought her dying while she slept/And sleeping when she died." Is this for kids? How long are you giving for the life span? 6-7 mos for northern U.S. states? Longer for tropical or captive raised species? Here's something that might strike their little fancies. Show the life spans for a fruit fly, mantis and 17yr cicada. I insect pic = one month, and one species per line so you'd have 1 ff, 7 mantids in the next row and 17 cicadas with a X12 next to them in the third.. That will definitely knock their sox off
Well, a lot of times they curl their legs up and kinda flip onto their backs when dead. I don't think I could get a pic resembling that of any of mine. None play dead very well!
And as for the kids, it kind of depends on what you consider a kid! It's for my college speech class so it's 18 and 19 year olds, which are kinda kids but not the cute toddler kind. I've got my speech pretty well structured out, my title being "Mantids Make 'Killer' Pets" with my 3 main points being they're easy to care for, they're carnivorous which makes them cheap to feed, and they have a short lifespan. One of my sources is an email interview with Yen I've developed other informational things about them into those main points without going into too much detail because it's a 5-7 minute speech. The presentation part is a PowerPoint to go alongside my speech which has kind of turned into a brag book of my best babies!
I just don't have anything for the slide of their lifespan, but I think I will try that Phil. Thanks!
That sounds like they're pinned Rick, and in that case YES! Email me the pic if you wouldn't mind. Once I have collected a few pics, I'll decide what I want to use.
