Has anyone had any luck buying mantid nymphs or ootheca off sites like eBay or bugsdirect.com? I really want multiple mantids now as I want to sell ooths for a bit of pocket money, and would internet sites sell me decent broodstock?

You buy ooths off ebay right? I wouldn't trust anything like this from ebay. Get them from people on here.

Nah. Get yours from somebody that has good feedback here and you will be fine.
