Yesterday I was feeding a L3 s. limbata nymph a spider outside when I had to go check my fax machine to make sure there was paper since i was receiving a 37 page fax from some lawyer tool. I returned to the nymph which i left outside after about 90 seconds.
When I returned outside i found he nymph lying limp on the bottom of her clear deli cup. This made me angry and i immediately blamed the lawyer for killing my nymph. It was about 100 degrees outside, but without exaggeration, it was about 90 seconds that she was there.
I brought the nymph inside and sprayed her with water and left her there moistened in her death pose. Very sad. An hour later I saw that she was alive ! - i guess that just like in the movie Princess Bride she had been only mostly dead! Within a couple of hours she was back on the underside of the lid of the deli cup eating daddy longlegs spiders happily.
I guess the lesson here is DONT LEAVE YOUR MANTIDS IN THE SUN FOR EVEN 90 SECONDS! Very glad she made it and I will not be doing that again
