I'm so upset! I'm trying to hatch my ootheca and the egg sac fell of the stick it was on. I think it was off a couple hours at most. I superglued it back to the stick. Will it be ok? Or are they all dead? I read somewhere that the ooth needs to be attached to a deoxygenated surface for some reason. It that true?

It's fine.. plenty of ooths are shipped detached from sticks and they spend 2-3 days in shipping inside the states or even for 1-2 weeks if its international.

They only have to be attached properly to ensure that hatchlings come out the right way. Any glue that is not water soluble should work as long as you do not cover the side the mantids hatch out of. There is zero risk of gluing the mantids to the ootheca as there's no way you'll glue the developing pre-nymph that's inside the egg shell which should also be protected by a layer of non-living ootheca foam. If you use hot glue, make sure o let it cool a little before attaching the ootheca as to not burn the eggs inside the ootheca.

Oh no! That's horrible! Do you think any of them will be ok? Will they suffer as they try to come out, if they are glued to the back of the ooth?

I put the superglue in water and it turned to a stringy white material with little floating pieces at a cool water temperature. So, my conclusion is that the superglue is mostly not water soluble. So, the ooth is probably ok. thank you all. I feel better

It is fine. However, in the future use low temp hot glue.

Thank you all! The egg sac did not hatch, it might have had water damage too. But another one of her other egg sac hatched! Kinda... I have 6 babies now! Yay!
