I live in Pittsburgh, and I see Chinese mantids and a few other species around every once in a while. I was wondering if someone could give me some tips for finding the ooths on the wild?

Also, can anyone tell me what species are native to the area? I have seen 2 or 3.

Chinese will be knee high, religiosa will be ankle high, and carolina will be calf, u can also find the anywhere higher, depending on what they have to lay on, but typically that is where they lay.

A lot of people say this but I have to disagree. I've found chinese ooths two inches from the ground as well as 15 feet up in trees. Same goes for where they live. There is no set area.

As far as finding ooths the best time is winter when there are no leaves. Find you a fence line covered in weeds or a weedy meadow. Chinese ooths are easy to spot while carolina are much harder.
