ok i got a question regarding a ooth set up and was wondering if this is one reason its not really working too well is i have a few of them round tubs that are 16 oz and what i have done. I have glued the ooths on the underside of the 16 oz tubs and then laid damp paper towels on the bottom of the tubs and well i have 15 gambian ooths in one of them and 3 gemmatus and 1 religiosa in the other well i did not really do much spraying in the beginning when i was collecting the gambian ooths but just relying on the paper towel in the tub to do the moisture but i think this is what is causing my drying out of the ooths and i got like 2 gemmatus ooths from yen before he left for his vacation and i only got 1 nymph out of those ooths but still trying to hatch them and well my question is am i doing anything wrong here or am i missing something i need to be doing?oh one more thing is i had this one gemmatus adult for a while now and only got 1 ooth from her do the gemmatus mantis take longer to lay a ooth say a few weeks in between ooth laying or anything?

Small suggestion: don't put all of your Gambian eggs in one basket.
Beautiful, James! And so true... ;)

Massaman, why did you glue so many ooths to only 2 containers? And one of them with mixed species even. What do you think might happen when one, then more start hatching? Just think about it. Are you then going to come here in a panic asking "what do I do now?!!!" Use your head, man!

Well he is un experienced and just needs help. Plus it saves room. Here is what u can do when moving time comes. If u take another cup the same as u have the ooths glued to, when moving time comes just set the lid on the other cup and the open cup with the babies will come to the top of the cup, u can use your bamboo sticks to let them climb onto and then u can move them pretty easy this way. Most will stay on the cup and if u have extra sticks to set in your cup that exceed the height of your open cup, they will climb on it while u work which keeps them close by. ;) ps excuse the poor smily

Oh, we are the formidable duo

OK how many hatchlings to an ooth? 15-100? Times that by 15. You have 225-1500 nymphs in one 16oz container!

the problem is if there is any that is going to hatch thats the thing as i have my doubts i would have any hatch unfort but i dont know giving them a little more time to see if anything hatches and if nothing does in like a few weeks time then its a done task!

My, your writing is hard to read. ;)

I suggest that you get several more containers. Once you've gotten these. Rip all of those ooths out, bar one or two, & attach the remainder to the other containers (2 max to each container). Do you keep records of when your mantids lay their ooths? That would help you in the long run, especially with a large collection, such as yours.

Massaman, it would help greatly if you could try to use proper capitalization and punctuation in your writing. Your posts are very difficult to read being devoid of mixed-case, but especially because they are all one horribly long, massive run-on sentence. Do your teachers let you get away with this? Can you please try to at least throw some periods in there to help us out a little bit? I'm sure everyone would appreciate it. ;) :)

Here here. I thought massaman said he was 37.

Massaman: I take it that English is not your native tongue.

Massaman: I know nothing about your educational background or any handicaps that may have made writing difficult for you. If, as you say, you are 38, then you may have decided that it is too late to change, but your English is frequently hard to understand. I tried to do a simple rewrite of your last post, and was unable to do so. If you want to improve your writing to 12th grade level, you should be aware that it would mean taking a remedial writing class. A much simpler solution would be to have someone read your posts before you hit the "Add Reply" button.

Let me also say that in the short time that you have been on this forum, you have started numerous threads that have elicited hundreds of reponses, and that's what forums are all about.

I apologize if my criticism of your grammar was out of line. If you can't help it, that's one thing. ;) If you can... please do. Thank you! :)

Edit: PS.... Maybe I'm a little more anal about it since my degree is in English (writing specialization), and shouldn't be so nitpicky about the way others write. At least you're not my husband.... ;) you should hear me criticize the way HE writes!!
