Oothlet?

I found this in my parymenopus cage. Upon closer inspection, it appears to be a miniature ooth! THE SMALLEST I'VE EVER SEEN! It must be a mix of only around 6 eggs! Why is this? Pics attached below:

I believe she started and stopped for some reason. was she disturbed or maybe too many flies? Hopefully its not the dreaded egg bound syndrome.

Fat enough to lay an ooth. We came home and found that. It may have been flies because i saw her looking annoyed at them

Would it be fertile? Any ideas?

It pays to treat any ooth from a mated female as fertile, even if the chances are slim.

Probably won't make it since it has no protection. That other ooth isn't looking any better. It also is very deformed and lacking most of the covering.

I know. But why would she lay such a small ooth (oothlet)?

Hard to say. I've seen it happen many times. Probably started and then was interrupted somehow.

The other Yellow orchid ooths I've seen here have looked very similar to the larger one.

No not really, his has almost no protective foam, you should only see a small dot on the face of the ooth not most of the egg.

As others have mentioned, try incubating the ootheca regardless of it's deformity. Consider that depending on how warm you keep it, you will have to mist it more often since it can easily dry out due to lack of protection. However, keeping it too moist the ooth will have a similar lack of protection against mould growth should it be kept to humid. You'll have to keep a real close eye on this one for there to be any chance of success and even then, who knows...
