I recently had two mantises die of abdominal wounds. . . slits between two segments specifically. One was attacked by my baby brother. She had these clearly open injuries and the skin around them had turned black. I tried to cover the wounds up with glue and tried to feed her, although she refused to take either the honey or the water. . . it could have been because she's still kind of wild and didn't trust me, or for some other reason. I ended up putting her down with a fair certainty she wasn't going to get any better. The other one, my sister's mantis, has what looks like a knife wound on his abdomen. I couldn't get a good picture; just imagine a scab right on the line between two abdominal sections. That's about what Helen looked like, too, just in multiple places. I tried the same thing with him; he also died.

Was there anything else I could have done, and was anything I did do wrong? What should I do if this ever happens again?

No it was definitely an injury. They both died, same symptoms. . .

Valcon's we couldn't figure out where the wound had come from. It wasn't a shiny black line, it was a scab. Helen had gotten kinda squished. But thanks for pointing that out; it gives me one less thing to be an alarmist about when the others grow up.
