Hello I have Orchid mantises that are white and have a hint of pink on their legs. I want them to be pink mantises so I have heard that if you expose them to light this happens. Is that true? If so, what should I use to do that? Would a desk lamp be fine and would it be enough if I left it on the whole day and turned it off at night? I really want these Orchids to be pink because white doesn't look nearly as cool! :)

not sure about orchids but i know some species will get a little color by what color flowers (i use fake ones) in their habitat. At least thats what i noticed

Hi again mantisman maybe I can help with my own experiences. The amount of pink always differ from each mantis but it's true that they can go from white to 90% pink and back. its still yet not understood on what causes them to change but humidity and enviormental factors are said to play a big role. From what I've seen adding a lot of greenage like fake leaves and plants to their terrarium has worked for me but mostly for older nymphs. The amount of humidity I think is the most important. I've noticed that my nymphs will turn more pink when their terrarium gets a little drier over time but will turn completely white after a good drenching the next day.( btw I keep my orchids in nothing but a clear deli cup and paper towels as bedding) I've used this as a good indicator on when the orchids need more humidity in their cups. If I see them turning pink a quick spray usually does the trick. Honestly it's easy to get a little neglectful when your caring for 50 something nymphs. for other people I've heard the opposite more humidity causes more pink so I guess it can vary from person to person.....or mantis
