Hello,

I was diagnosed with chronic depression, and the therapist advised getting a hobby to occupy myself. And I remembered when I was breeding mantids, and it kept me busy.

Anyways, so I bought a Orchid Mantis ooth, and I'm expecting it to arrive either tomorrow or the day after. And I have a small viv that I used to keep a Ball Python in before it got too big. But it has a thermostat and everything still attached so I'm going to use that as an incubator.

But I can't find any care sheets on Orchid Mantid hatchling care. I've got a good few years experience but I can't find the basics... temp/humidity etc. So talk about going in unprepared...

Cheers,

They do well at 72F and above, they like water every day and best to give them flying feeders, and the occasional worm. Mist the ooth three times a more each week till hatchin and mist the babies with really warm water twice a day while little. Enjoy!

Thank you!

And wuld fruit flies do? I remember having Gambian Spotted Eye'd Mantis ooths, and they wouldn't eat the fruit flies because they were too big, eventually they died. And what's the mortality rate with Orchids? Like chinese, african etc, most die out, what's it like with these?

Cheers,

Just like most mantids. Normal temps like Rebecca said. Fruit flies are just fine for them. I had good luck with most of them surviving.

They will eat either melnogasters or hydeis. They are pretty tough, don't feed them till they are two days old. And u should not have any die on you, they are really hardy.
