hi!

i've heard that from the transition from L1 to L2, there are a large number of fatalities in orchid nymphs. why is that, and is there anything to do to prevent it if so? thanks.

 
I think it just depends on how you care for them. But orchids mantises dont overproduce (like the chinese) So there usually isnt random deaths

 
That's one of the reasons people wait for them to molt before they sell. You never know.

 
I don't recall that when I kept them for awhile. Of course mortality can be high at early instars.

 
Orchid nymphs are very hardy. I cant see why there would be a large death rate from L1 to L2? Like others said. It's all in the husbandry.
