Just want to know, is anyone currently keeping this beauty?
+1. They're around the same size as well. They have a large "crown" that is the size and with of the head. In females, the hood is larger and the markings on the inside of the arms are salmon pink striped. Overall, their color is dark black, but there are variationsNot in culture. Very nice mantis though. Close relative of the ghost mantis.
yes there are two subspecies. I'm fairly certain kuhlii kuhlii is the one with the darker coloration and kuhlii asiatica has the lighter colors. for example, this: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/1723/parablephariskuhlii3.jpg is most likely kuhlii asiatica, and this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_l-0vfJzoyFI/TQTyYU12M_I/AAAAAAAAKG0/Ymsb-yAYtX0/s640/darthmantis.jpg is kuhlii kuhliiThank you Brancsikia339 for the pictures I have not seen before. There are two subspecies of Parablepharis kuhlii right? Parablehpharis kuhlii subsp. asiatica and Parablepharis kuhlii subsp. kuhlii. Subsp. or ssp. means subspecies and var. means variety . Maybe asiatica has a different thorax from kuhlii. I found this picture, http://www.dght-basel.ch/pics2010/vortrag100104-parablepharis-kuhlii-asiatica.jpg from here. It says it is a Parablepharis kuhlii asiatica. There must be a topic on a forum about that picture. The Parablepharis kuhlii here, http://borneokuwagata.blogspot.com/2011/04/my-mantis.html (looks like a female) looks different from the ones on that site (Is it Japanese?). Maybe this one (call it #1), is a Parablepharis kuhlii kuhlii because it looks different from this one (#2). #2 is a Parablepharis kuhlii asiatica. Is #2 an adult female?
Ha! Nice! More pictures. Okay, then this one is Parablepharis kuhlii kuhlii? It has a lighter color than the very dark one in your link but still dark.yes there are two subspecies. I'm fairly certain kuhlii kuhlii is the one with the darker coloration and kuhlii asiatica has the lighter colors. for example, this: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/1723/parablephariskuhlii3.jpg is most likely kuhlii asiatica, and this: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_l-0vfJzoyFI/TQTyYU12M_I/AAAAAAAAKG0/Ymsb-yAYtX0/s640/darthmantis.jpg is kuhlii kuhlii
Yes that looks like kuhlii kuhlii, just with a lighter coloration.Ha! Nice! More pictures. Okay, then this one is Parablepharis kuhlii kuhlii? It has a lighter color than the very dark one in your link but still dark.
Well yea, but colors help a little bit. Like this is P. k. asiatica: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/1723/parablephariskuhlii3.jpg It is lighter colored than the one with the thinner protonum, P. k. kuhliiForget the colors, for God's sake. P. k. asiatica has the wider pronotum in both sexes.
Okay. The thorax of the P. k. kuhlii reminds me of a tank and the asiatica looks like a leaf to me.Forget the colors, for God's sake. P. k. asiatica has the wider pronotum in both sexes.
No, I do not think so. You mean the mantis right? Are they Japanese?
