Hye!

When I received those cute buddies I could notice a dark "bump" on the eye for the female, I thought it was just a rubbed eyes problem and one on the soft part of the male which might have been a minor wound. Several days later I notice one on the eye of my tiny Chinese ( I thought he crapped on his head)... Now I m starting to worry that instead these bumps are one kind of parasite. I can't remove them. They are kinda shiny. So please, some one can tell what it could be, what does it do, anything about that if it ever happen to be a danger for those mantises. Thank you in advance!

Pictures aren't that good but I hope they are clear enough for an answer.

Hopefully someone will respond soon with a ID of what it is. I can tell you without a doubt from my many mantids that had rubbed eyes the black is on the inside of the eye, and most definitely does not make a bump, or protrude from the eye itself like those in the photos.

If you have any uninfected mantids I would recommend you isolate them away from the others so they do not develop the problem too.

im guessing infection? I have a idolomantis with the same problem as described in the picture. It will probably go away in the next few molts. I would personally try to apply a small amount of honey on the "infected(?)" area.

Thank you for your replies. Those mantises haven't shed yet since I have spotted those protuberances on them. I will let you know if those disappear after their next molt. I wonder what those are if they aren't parasites then. Time may tell.

They look like injuries to me. Scabs.
