Hi guys!

Can I set up my paypal account with a debit card? I don't work so I cannot get a credit card.

Also, my bank account uses only our national currency (which means if you send me dollars, they will be automatically exchanged to PLN) - will I still be able to pay other people in dollars?

Sorry for those noob-ish questions.

If people send money to you, it should stay in your Paypal account until you transfer it to your bank, right?

As with the debit cards, I only know about doing it in the US... sorry.

if I remember correctly, when you setup the paypal account you don't set it up to your debit card but actually set it up to your checking account so you have to have routing #s and checking #s and everything reaady and then after a few days or something it is approved and it takes awhile before you can use it or something.

You need the routing number to your bank. Then your checking account number. Then you register with paypal. Then they send you two transactions and you must tell them the amount that each one was then thats how they verify it. Then you need to verify other things once registered.

Guys, the paypal proceedure has changed a LOT. In fact, IMO, it's turned into a very incovenient payment method.

They seem to think that these days, everyone is a money launderer. When setting up your paypal account, you will need to add a credit/debit card, and a bank account which accepts direct debit. It can be a current account or savings account, it doesn't matter. And yea, credit or debit cards can be used.

But, be aware! As SOON as you try and withdraw your money, your account WILL be limited, and paypal will ask for photo ID, contact information for your suppliers of the products you have been selling, and postal receipts for all of them. If you cannot provide all of them, your account will be frozen for 180, and after this period, and check sent to your address with the remaining funds, and your account frozen.

One of my paypal accounts is current limited, and lucky for me, I had the postla receipts of the 26 items they asked tracking information for.

But the customer service is an absolute shambles, so don't think you're getting any help from them at any point if you get stuck.

I've just signed up for a merchant account, and I'm moving in to accepting credit card payments instead of paypal. With a merchant account you know your money is safe.

I guess I'm just fed up of feeling so happy when I finally get access to my own money, which really, is just wrong.

Good luck!

Really? I don't see anything weird or wrong.. I can withdraw just fine (only 17 EUR on my account now though :p ) but I can just transfer it to my bank account.. The only thing I had to do to confirm my bank account (did like 1 month ago) was to tell them the 2 small amount they charged to my bank (like 2 and 4 cent), and after that everything was verified ..

i dont have 1 single credit card..do u know why?because i dont live my life on credit. ;) all the money i have is mine its not borrowed..credit cards are more trouble than there worth..im glad i dont have one.. ;)

i set up my paypal account using my bank account and a solo debit card,,also giving them phone number to my house and aload more details..like ian said there worried about money laundering.at 1st u can only send so much..but after giving them some details ie home adress and what the acount is used for u can transfer as much money as u want through it.so yes the answer to your Q is yes u can use a debit card

my account is unlimited meaning i can transfer as much money as i want through it.i dont deal with ebay..so the money that people send me i just send it to my bank acount then i can draw it out..takes about 3 working days to send money from paypal to your bank..what is good tho is if your paypal account is zero funds but u have money in the bank..u can still buy stuff using your paypal acount..it just gets wired out of your bank acount..i dont have any problems with paypal..i been using it for about 1 year now..and its great to use..when i had problems i emailed them and they responded with in 48hours.

I really don't know how you have good words to say about the support Scott, for me it's been an absolute shambles.

All my activity has been via ebay however, and they watch much more closely when you sell via ebay.

Be aware that they don't like you having 0 funds in your account, obviously because they are earning no interest. In several experiments with 4 paypal accounts, when I tried to withdraw the whole lot on a new account, I got limited. Those in which I only withdrew half, were not limited.

I could go on all day about paypal, but I won't.

The bottom line is, if you want to know where your money is, where it's going, and know it's safe, then don't rely on paypal for this. If a seller files a "not as described" complaint, it's almost guaranteed that they will win. I would suggest as soon as you get payment to withdraw it, but that will simply get you limited, so you really can't win. Maybe I'm picking holes, but to me, the new paypal "security" measures really are a joke.

Just see paypalsucks.com for some really bad horror stories :)

In my bank they told me - that if I want to do bussiness with people from abroad, then I have to have like 100$ to start a sub-account that would allow me to trade with people, but using foreign currency (in this case only dollars) - but I don't know if this would lead to a massive provision, where the cost of money transfer to my account would be immensive.

So now I really don't know if I want to use paypal, especially since I plan on selling a lot of stuff.

Is PayPal different for each country? I had NO problem at all setting it up, didn't have to ask a single thing to my bank. I can send money just fine, it gets billed from my bank account like 5 days after I used PayPal. I can also withdraw what I want (minimum of 10 EUR, and a fee of 1 EUR)...

iv only been using them for about 9 months..i havent had any problems YET.Soon as my money goes in to my paypal account i with draw it and just leave 5£ in there.i do buy alot of things through paypal tho..i only ever emailed them once..mayby i was lucky and caught them at the right time..im sure the amount of money u transfer though it u have emailed them many times.so your more likely to run in to problems with them im gueesing.

I bet Paypal likes to freeze/limit people's accounts for 180 days so that they can buy a 6-month CD or some other debt.

Then I don't know... what other methods of payment can I use instead of paypal? I have to find one soon - I have a lot of stuff to trade, and it won't wait.

Paypal does not have and will not get my bank numbers ... no way .. they do have my CC number of course ...

yes the site asks me to give them this and i decline ..... maybe it is different for new subscribers as i have had it for a number of years ...

my failth in most places security ends when it comes to my banking information ;- )

Man, now I'm on the fence - I don't really know if I want to set up this account at all!
