My passion for praying mantis started last October when I was in Texas and found some praying mantis on the vacation rental. Two of them were quite cooperative and posed for photos. I'd like to confirm the identificaiton of these species:

When I was trying to identify these species, I came across this website and got my first mantids from Precarious and Jesskb.

Here is one of my Ghost mantids that I got from Precarious back in November.

Thanks for your help with the IDs!

THe best Stagmomantis photos I have ever seen. May I know which part of Texas did you find all those adult females Stagmomantis species? THey are not Stagmomantis limbata, and look like Stagmomantis carolina. Only the Western part of Texas border with New Mexico has S. californica, which look very similar to S. carolina.

The first pic looks like a Stagmomantis carolina. But I see that yen_saw is looking at this post, so you will most likely soon find out.

Likebugs & Yensaw, Thanks for the identification! These were taken at a rental in San Marcos (Hill Country). Austin and San Antonio are the closest major cities. The house we stayed in was great for insect photography. Besides praying mantis, there were huge vine sphinx caterpillars on a vine outside the house, large spiders in webs, and scorpions (in the house). I captured a few of the scorpions (that escaped my family's attempt to kill them) and photographed them outside before letting them go (far away from the house). There were a couple of other cool insects and praying mantis that were too high up on the house to photograph.

ismart & Slinkytreekeeper, Thanks for the commments. The first three photos were taken outdoors...probably in early morning light. Though I didn't check the data, I most likely used a flash. I have a macro flash that I use for insect photography. It has diffusers on it. The last three photos were taken indoors this past week.

Late comment on this thread, so that I don't make the wrong I.D.! We have a few technically able photographers on this forum, whose work is always worth viewing, but yours have artistry. I trust that there will be another calendar this year, if Peter can afford it; I trust that you will send in a cuppla dozen entries.
