So I gathered a bunch of Chinese mantis ooths. I left them in a tub on my table thinking that it is far too cold for them to already have begun development. I guess I was wrong and I had a surprise hatch! That means that these other ooths are likely to hatch soon as well and I can't handle 20 something Chinese ooths hatching at the same time!

$4.50 shipped for one

$15 shipped for five

$25 shipped for ten!!!

If your temps are low an extra $4 for a heat pack and insulation is necessary. Please tell me about your temps if you think it may get too cold on your end!

Email me at [email protected]

I NEEEEED THESE GONE!

If these are wild gathered just put them back outside where you found them if you can't sell them. Regardless of temps you would not ever need to put a heat pack in while shipping an ooth of this species. That would likely cause them to hatch. Cold will not bother these ooths. It sounds like you're trying to keep them warm which is causing them to hatch. You keep a chinese ooth warm and it is going to hatch.

It was on my table for two days. I've only had them for that long. If I put them back outside in 50-60 (high) degree weather will they make it? We had a short warm spell but it's cold again. The cold won't kill the developing ones? Or do they just slow development down even after warmth has broken their diapause?

You should review the posts about diapause. But, no the cold shouldn't kill them...especially if you're only in the 50-60s. Below freezing, I might worry about the sudden temperature change, but not with a mild cold spell like that. They'll be fine, they survive in our weird weather patterns all the time!

(P.S. I'd take one if I didn't have two already!) :p

Maybe I'm just super lame, but I cannot find any information about cold weather killing them *after* they have begun developing. I imagine very cold temperatures would kill them once they have begun to significantly develop. It wouldn't make sense if it didn't at least slow down the development.

Basically what I'm asking is will the cold kill the nymphs if they are only days away from hatching? (cold - warm - cold again pattern)

You could glue them to a deli cup lid or what ever you have, setting them up for hatching off the bottom and keep it in the fridge, and just keep an eye on them every day or so ,if you want to keep them. :)

Cold weather is not going to harm an ooth of that species. They are designed to handle severe cold. If they were warm for a few days that is ok. Around here we get warm spells all the timne. It isn't even something you should worry about.
