Half tarantula, half moth! Jeeze! I bet you could find lots of critters in that tunnel huh? Great music too, BTW!

So true! That was how I felt at the time. If not for those big eyes and feather antennae I would have thought it was a flying tarantula!

And you are probably right about the cave. Unfortunately I didn't bring a light source. Next time!

I saw one of these at a gas station last summer and coaxed it to fly into my car. I drove home, called my mom and told her to bring a cage and a camera to the car. This was at around midnight, mind you. After transporting it in the cage from my car to my room, I let it loose and took pictures of it.

I found an Imperial moth this summer that was tangibly bigger than the Polyphemus moth. Other Saturniidae I've found include Luna moth and Prometheus moth.

I was surprised when it just crawled onto my finger like that. Very mellow little monster.

You should add your pics in this thread. I'd like to see the other moths too!
