Ponder (P. affinis) says: I'm a big boy now! Umm...is it dinnertime now?? He molted 2 days ago to L7. Sent as L3 from Mike Valenz.

Sorry for two items: 1. I have the lousiest cell phone "camera" on the market. 2. I have the fingers of a street bum. Really time for a manicure! Jeeeeez.

Orion ( T. sinensis) explores. This one really HATES to go back to his condo. Molt to L4 two days ago. Sent as L3 from Mike "Malakyoma."

Shot (cell phone cam blurry) of Orion's ab. I count 8 sections. How about you? Careful - there's a crimp way up where it meets the thorax (minor problem from the molt)

Counting the top segments works for sexing? I've only heard of counting the bottom segments.

BTW, very cute babies!
No it does not work. Only the bottom segments. Do you have a shot of Ponders abdomen? He seems to be a she.

Was told due to Ponder's (Parasphendale affinis) diamond shaped light mark on the abdomen top that she was a he.

The only photo I currently have of Ponder's stern post is here. Not sure you can decipher anything. Not a great shot.

Can someone remind me the number of bottom segments on a female and male Tenodera sinensis ? Thanks.

Thanks for the pic :)

He does appear to be a she in that pic.

As for tenodera females have 5-6 males have 6-7.

That looks like a female to me too :) But that's okay - the name Ponder works for both!

Thanks. I do see the correction regarding Ponder (female rather than male). Although pre-adult, the physiology is much different than male Parasphendale affinis. I found a good illustration of this here

Poor Ponder. He/She's gonna grow up to be a transvestite. First I call her she. Then I call him he. Now it's back to she. Does anyone have Dr. Freud's phone number??

Bahahahahahahahah I love how irreverent you are! :)

She it is. Beginning to get the hang of this sexing stuff. Certainly not easy when they're very young.
