I love the 4th and 5th pictures! Let me know if the ooth she should be about to lay hatches. I did mate her, but just not for very long.

wow never seen a cicada so up close. it kind of reminds me of my dumpy tree frog lol

Nice quality photos....not sure I've ever seen a cicada...only heard them. I probably would not be able to use them as feeders though. They look too cute.

Awesome!

I asked my daughter to look and she approved.

She loves cicadas and we have done our best to try to preserve them.

She is six and thinks that it is much better to be eaten than the awful life of not being able to fly for mates.

We have found quite a few cicadas that couldn't prepare for flight after becoming adult. She would rather them find a mate or be eaten.

Better than dying for no reason.

We have a ton of cicadas and cicada killer wasps.

You can sit on my back deck and watch them hunt.

Sometimes if the cicada is too big for the female to carry back to the burrow. I will drop it right close for her.

Cicadas make a great meal. This time of year I find them laying in the street on their backs under street lights at night/early morning. My turtles and mantids love em.

Tell your daughter I said thanks for the entomology lesson. I thought it was rare and I just got lucky that the one I found couldn't fly.
