I went to do my presentation about mantids today. The ladies were all elderly and were wonderful. I had never spoken in front of people before. It is a ladies group that get together every other Friday and do something interesting. They had invited me three months prior.
I took my Alata Mocha, Tammy the budwing, Oscar the ghost, Henry the Lobata and two young H. Multispinas. (One of them had hitched along hidden in the plant I brought for the smaller mantids to sit in.)
I told them about each kind, thier origins etc... I placed some on the table and the ladies had a ball watching them move. Oscar the ghost was the favorite. He was the most fascinating thing they'd ever seen! They laughed at the antics of the heirodulas. They ran here and there and swayed looking around at everyone.
Everyone was surprised at how intelligent they are and at how many kinds there are.
We as ll had fun though Tammy got alittle stressed and shot dirty looks at someone who touched her the wrong way. (I can tell when Tammy is mad, she freezes in place and wont budge.) She calmed down and everything was fine.
I hope I will be invited again. I love teaching people about nature when I can.
